Summary/Abstract: The article presents some chosen elements of pop culture. Hip hop is here considered to be an urban lingua franca that enables the communication between representatives of different national cultures. The article argues with popular opinions that classify hip hop as a pseudo-artistic, ruffianly and vulgar style. The author is interested in the image of urban reality in hip hop texts and in the changes of form and aesthetics that this subculture proposes.
