Tuberculosis in a discourse on a disease

Summary/Abstract: The author is interested in a way in which „tuberculosis” exists and creates certain aspects of culture. He traces the genesis of the myth of tuberculosis and its metaphorical transformations in the texts of culture on the turn of 18th and 19th centuries. He considers the fascination by tuberculosis to be a new stage in European aesthetics, where the disease is not only an autonomous subject, but it is also subjected to those aesthetics and breaks the biological fatality.
