Summary/Abstract: When the world came face to face with Nazi crimes, notions hammered out between the two world wars had already been defined and included “a crime under the law of nations” or “delictis contra iuris gentium.” Rafał Lemkin believed they failed to reflect the nature of the crime. Hence not only a notion of “a crime against humanity” should be refined, but a new notion should be introduced, so he coined the term “genocide.
