Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to find a suitable concept for possible reconstruction and integration of various cultural identities, which are diverse and internally layered. The view on issues of identity taken from Serbia – the country in ‘transition’ faring through different temptations in search for an appropriate identity which could mean a chance for integrity in processes of identity changes – is specific in as much as it could consider itself as a subject of history and not only as ‘otherness’ designated by other parties.
