Summary/Abstract: Hendrykowski analyses "Eroica" by Andrzej Munk. The art and the value of this film are the result of an original form of narrative. In "Eroica" almost everything was fresh and innovative, also new technology was used (e.g. sound recording cameras such as Super Parvo and Éclair imported from the West permitted innovative use of light and sound). The author argues that one can reveal deeper structure of the film, and reach beyond surface level interpretation by identifying specific type of narration, that organizes and defines the film maker’s point of view, which determines the meaning of the work as a whole. In his analysis he describes the formal techniques used in the narrative labyrinth of the "Eroica", and reveals the hidden meanings. He argues that the modus of free indirect narrative applied by Munk, engages the viewer and pulls him into a tempting and risky game.
