Summary/Abstract: The phrase of “the special-purpose patrimony” is found both in the marginal title and in the content of article 31 of the Romanian Civil Code. Which is the significance of this phrase from the perspective of those various theories regarding the notion of patrimony? Is this phrase the sign of a reform or the proof for the continuation of a certain vision about the notion of patrimony? In order to answer these questions it is useful to recall first of all, briefly, the main theories regarding the patrimony (I), so that subsequently we should examine the relevant texts about the patrimony in the Romanian Civil Code (II), and finally appreciate to what extent the crucial elements of the conception underlying this notion, including its correlation with the special-purpose patrimony, mark a reform or a continuity in relation to the situation prior to the effective date of the present Civil Code (III).
