Summary/Abstract: The review discusses Marek Pieniążek’s book “Akt twórczy jako mimesis (Act of Creation as Mimesis)” a detailed monograph of Tadeusz Kantor’s last performance “Dziś są moje urodziny (It’s My Birthday Today).” The performance is studied in the context of the artist’s whole artistic creativity to which the research material is composed of notes, painting, interviews, papers and manifestos. The performance’s analysis is carried out from the perspective of modern research methodologies (e.g. Lacanian), due to which the book tackles the analysis of the performance as well as traces its reception.
