Šotola’s Man and History: On the Profile of One Generation

Summary/Abstract: This article considers the literary development of Jiří Šotola (1924–1989), a member of the generation of writers who made their debut after the Second World War. It considers several stages in the history and fate of the individual, in which Šotola, in his verse, but chiefly in his fiction, came to terms with the onerous scepticism about man’s helplessness, projected into various periods of history.
