Influence of ISO 14001 system adoption on the performance of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship enterprises

Summary/Abstract: The main objective of this study is to present an improvement procedure of ISO 14001 environmental management system for the Podkarpackie Voivodeship enterprises which adopted or are planning to adopt ISO 14001 system. The procedure was created with a use of tau-Kendall’s correlation between the distinguished system’s features and the enterprises’ performance, i.e. net receipts, financial result and enterprises’ efficiency. The system’s determinants were attributed to the sequential phases of environmental management system model. Determinants which owing to their development influenced the enterprises Wpływ systemu zarządzania środowiskowego na wyniki przedsiębiorstw… 135 performance were treated as the key system’s features creating areas for improvement for the enterprises. Essential for the companies’ performance were: commitment of all the workers, establishing procedures for objectives and targets, establishing procedures for limiting impurities, conducting periodic internal audits, evaluation of the environmental performance, management reviews and improvement in minimizing the negative influence on the environment. The compliance of the opinions about the development of features was examined using Kendall’s coefficient of concordance, and its statistical significance with the use of Friedman test.
