The Activity of Aficionados as an Example of Building Social Relationships around the Tauromachic Traditions

Summary/Abstract: Tradition in modern societies is subject to changes and modifications. Spanish corrida de toros is a good example of these processes. For some, it is a spectacular fight of man and bull which has an artistic dimension. For others, it is a barbaric act of killing a bull in front of the audience. The audience of this tradition is quite specific. They described themselves as aficionados – enthusiasts. Today, there are many debates concerning the legality of bullfighting. During the last decades many associations of aficionados were born. Among them are such organizations as Unión de Federaciónes Taurinas de Aficionados de España (UFTAE), Asociación Taurina Parlamentaria (ATP), and Asociación de Profesionales y Aficionados Taurinos de Utrera.
