Summary/Abstract: The prefixal derivation is the most productive method for word formation of verbs. The analysis of the verbal prefixation enables determination of the frequency of certain prefixes, the variation and the deviation of their use. It can be a result from the influence of the tradition, or following somebody else’s (errors) word formation models, it can be also a reflection of the scriber’s speech or its individual choice. There are situations when the choice of the suffix is made for the purpose of avoiding a repetition of the prefixes in same contexts or for using the prefix for stylistic purposes. The aspiration for prefixation of the verbal forms was especially present in the younger church Slavonic texts. The variability in the use of the verbal prefixes to certain verbs can be noted. The use of the new prefixed verbs which are unconfirmed in other texts indicates the intensified productivity of the prefixes. Also numerous examples of double, i.e. poliprefixation are registered.
