Summary/Abstract: The author, controverting with the opinions of barrister Dragoljub Todorović, is trying to define the main characteristics of the two key actors of political scene in post-MiloSević's Serbia - those of Vojislav Kostunica and Zoran Đindić. He also tries to uncover the essential reasons of their conflict. Being himself a participant in the events concerning the overthrow of Broz and MiloSević totalitarian regimes, Ivanović analyses these events and the participation of Kostunica and Đindić in them. By analysing their behaviour and rise to the very top of Serbian political scene, he comes to a conclusion that their opinions regarding the method of «governance» are irreconcilable: the first adheres to the principles of Montesquieu, and the other one to those of Machiavelli. In practice, when it comes to the democratisation of the society and creation of the rule of law, which is a main condition for effective break with the past and entry in the European Community, this had a catastrophic outcome.
