Summary/Abstract: They say that one should have a good knowledge of the events and characteristics of the past in order to better understand the present. Led by that, this research, by means of anthropology and ethnography, points to the core of education and character development, to the process of growing up, to life conditions, society, culture, system of values, educators and other factors during the growth and development, as well as of their properties between two world wars in a rural area. It is interesting to compare the obtained data with the characteristics of today’s society: differences and similarities, which mostly manifest themselves in the way/kind of education and character development (upbringing), inversion of the system of values, and social order. Due to limited space, only a part of investigation has been presented here, the one that refers to the specifics of education in the Žepče region during the period in question.
