Summary/Abstract: The paper carries the considerations about the role of fra Martin Nedić, the first Illyrianist of Bosnia, in forming the cultural life of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 19th century. The paper is a debate of sorts, in which one is anxious to prove that fra Martin Nedić is the first Illyrian from Bosnia because in 1835 he published an epic poem entitled A Conversation that Illyrian Fairies Had in Spring of 1835. In this sense the author produces evidence that favours fra Martin Nedić, and juxtaposes it with the assertion of those investigators of the history and Croatian literature in Bosniaand Herzegovina who in the past tried to dispute fra Martin Nedić as the first Croatian writer from Bosnia and Herzegovina who acted in the spirit of Illyrian Movement. After that the paper speaks about Nedić’s role in the moulding of the cultural life of Croats in Bosnia. Fra Martin Nedić acted as a teacher, writer and builder, as a historian and Church diplomat so that his role in the formation of the cultural life of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina is exceptionally great, and his place in the history of the Croatian people is guaranteed.
