Summary/Abstract: This paper views the structure of space in Shakespeare's Hamlet, its correlation with characters' expression and their worldview. It explores the image of space formed by cultural period, space dimentions typical for Renaissance and Middle Ages. Antropocentric worldview, horizontal, which means geografic and natural spacial perspectiv dominates in the play. However a contrast between the episteme of Renaissance and that of Middle Ages is not equivalent to a dichotomy between good and evil, and humanistic mind covers much more than stereotype spacial images of Renaissance. Naturality, as well as the extention of geografic horizon often gets a negative connotation in Hamlet, and the beyond, a vertical dimention of space becomes an important condition of harmony in the world - disregard for which leads to the tragic mistake and catastrophe.
