Summary/Abstract: An object ofthe studies of this article is a continuation and development of Zenonas Slaviūnas' ideas by scientists of younger generation representing vari-ous fields of activities. The aim is to review briefly the problematics of sutartinės' studies, raised by Z. Slaviūnas, to show the changes in the Lithuanian ethnomusicologists' opinion about sutartinės, to discuss contemporarybranches ofsutartinės' studies observed in the works ofthe Lithuanian and foreign scientists as well as to draw attention to the fact that sutartinės are included into the contemporary studies of the world multipart music. Descriptive, comparative and historical-typological methods have been used. A conclusion has been drawn that sutartinės should be considered today as one ofthe most important objects of studies and discussions of the Lithuanian ethnomusicologists and ethnologists (philological studies of sutartinės hang back some-what). Sutartinės are actual both in scientific and in cultural space - they sound yearly in the international folklore festival Skamba, skamba kankliai (special evenings of sutartinės are held during it), people are thought to sing sutartinės in the camps and courses devoted to this purpose, ABC books that provide guidance how to sing sutartinės are published.
