Summary/Abstract: This article analyses attributive participial constructions in news stories using material from the newspaper Postimees in the year 2006. The character of adjectivisation and nominalisation is compared. The study traces the processes represented in adjectivisation as well as what sort of information the participial constructions give about the head substantive. The categorisation of processes is based on the principles of functional grammar. It was found that the largest group (43%) consists of attributive phrases describing the state or relationship of the head nominal, 29% of cases contain activity verbs forming the participial construction, and 10% of participial constructions express a process which the object is undergoing or has undergone.
