Summary/Abstract: The military operation in Afghanistan has its roots in the tragic events of 11 September 2001. It was the terrorist attacks launched on that day against the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon1 that triggered the establishment of the international anti-terrorist coalition. As a result, operation “Enduring Freedom”2 (EF) was launched by the United States jointly with other countries. Overthrowing the Taliban regime and ridding Al-Qaeda led international terrorist groups of Afghan government support were the main goals of the operation.
