Summary/Abstract: Polish-German relations have always constituted an enormously significant aspect of Poland’s foreign policy. Along with Poland’s accession to the European Union on 1 May 2004, a new phase of bilateral relations has begun. Political, economic, cultural and scientific co-operation between our countries has intensified since the 1990s. After accession, the quality of political contacts changed. We became partners in the Council of the EU, EU Commission, European Parliament and other Community institutions. Partnership within the Union created new opportunities to expand neighbourly contacts, for instance through financial support for initiatives concerning regional co-operation. New prospects for economic co-operation emerged, leading to a surge in the volume of trade.
