Summary/Abstract: The land, injured by the Karst processes is unfavourable for the intensive farming, because of the impedance of a people health and biosthere in general due to the pollution of underground water. According to the decision of Lithuanian Republic government “The Order Of Farming In Intensive Karst Region”, December 24th 1991, decided to divide the Karst zone into the four groups of land suggesting the appropriated crop rotation and plant protection measures, limiting the usage of mineral, organic fertilisers and pesticides in Karst region. Foundation “Tatula” by the Government of Lithuanian Republic was established in 1993 for the dealing with environmental problems in Karst region. Foundation was reregistered into public body “Tatulos programa” in 1997. Hereby the development of organic farming and solution of environmental problems in North Lithuania was encouraged. The biggest number of organic farms and certified land in Lithuania and North Lithuania Karst region is in Biržai region.
