Summary/Abstract: Besides banks, as dominant financial institutions in B-H financial sector, over the past few years we have recorded the development of a group of nonbanking financial institutions – microcredit organisations. The development of microcredit organizations, which offer their services and products to small entrepreneurs and low-income clients is accompanied with challenges for national authorities in terms of their regulation and supervision. Thus, the major questions in the area of regulation and supervision to which authorities must give answers are: Do microcredit organisations need different regulation and supervision compared to banks? Can they take deposits? Do state (entity) supervisors have appropriate capacities? Answers to these questions determine the regulation and supervision of microcredit organisations. In Bosnia and Herzegovina it is important to build strong supervisors, increase their capability, and improve cooperation between entities supervisors.
