Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to reconstruct Biedermeier qualities of the author’s views and by Bolesław Prus. There has been assumed that certain categories of Biedermeier, particularly those of emotive and axiological-ethical character, contributed to the outlook picture of some of Prus’ works. Biedermeier qualities revealed mainly in the short story Sieroca dola (An Orphan’s Lot) (following Oliver Twist by Dickens); some traces also occur in the great novels, namely Lalka (The Doll) and Emancypantki (The Emancipated Women). Prus creatively used such components of Biedermeier outlook as the cult of a simple man, sympathy for human misery injustice and poverty, the postulate of care for other people. However, the idyllic and static vision of the world, so typical of Biedermeier, evolved in Prus’ writings into a more complex model of reality and human existence, partially characterized with relativism and agnosticism.
