Summary/Abstract: The myth of age belongs to myths with a long history and yet no definite explanation. In his paper, J. Gavura tries to take a closer look at a prophetic notion of Czesław Miłosz who, in his nineties, says that the young will never write some tractates. Gavura alters the word „tractates“ with a word „poems“ and carefully reads poets who reached the mature age of eighty or even ninety. Eventually Gavura sums up that the poetry of aging poets (Šiktanc, Seifert, Rúfus and Miłosz) still brings a lot of potential and some of their pieces are the best example of human wisdom and experience. He agrees with introductory notion and adds that this poetry teaches a precious ability – to foresee what is coming.
