Summary/Abstract: László Gara (1904-1966) was a translator, an editor and a journalist. He emigrated to Paris in the beginning of the twenties where he dedicated himself completely to the introduction of Hungarian literature in France. His most important work is the edition of a Hungarian anthology of poetry (Anthologie de la Poésie Hongroise du XIIe siécle á nos jours, Seuil, 1962). He had a close relationship with important authors of Hungarian literature of the day. The present collection gives a selection from Miklós Mészöly’s letters that give an insight into the literary and literary-political circumstances of the day; hereby can be read Mészöly’s abstract from his novel called The Athlete’s Death for Seuil Publishing House as well.
