A Retrospective on the Transylvanian Hungarian Historical Dictionary

Summary/Abstract: The 13th volume of the Dictionary appeared a year ago. The research community is currently working on the last, 14th volume. The author of this contribution summarizes the inciting questions which emerged during the editorial process, as well as the circumstances and events surrounding it. He also emphasizes that the uniquely rich material made available by this enormous work will serve as an abundant resource not only for language historians, but also for historiographers, cultural historians and ethnographers, as the completing of the Historical Dictionary can now be viewed as certain.
