Summary/Abstract: The paper thematizes first the most elementary structures of «Lebenswelt» where understanding is characterized as «standing knowingly in the midst of patterns of meaning». These patterns of meaning are of interest by their «pointedness » which does not necessarily mean that they are exclusively of teleological character. Their «point» can also - as is the case in art works - be indefinite and thus requires a kind of understanding which is open to the productive ambiguity of such patterns of meaning.
