Summary/Abstract: The goal of this paper is to publish the stove tiles that were found during the ar-chaeological excavation of the residential tower Tereš in Oponice castle in 2008. The arti¬facts are dated mostly to the end of the 16th till the first half of 17th century, to the late Renaissance period in the western Slovakia. In the analyzed collection of 124 tiles there are mostly tiles with geometric ornaments and bowl-shaped hollows in the front side of the heating wall. The tiles have yellow-green glaze, which was oxidation fired. We can find very similar type of such tiles in the next castle Topoľčany, where this type can be found with chronogram „1586“and in the manor-house in Topoľčianky. This confirms also the pottery context, which was found together with the tiles. There is the so called „tvr¬domestský gray dish“ in the collection, which oldest appearance goes to the end of the 16th century and it dominates in the 17th century. The tiles support the existence of the tiles stove in the residential tower Tereš during the property of Peter and Pavol Apponi in the beginning of the 17th century. The youngest possible dating of the tiles stove is the year 1645, when the castle was burnt and was never rebuild again. The finds of tiles substantiate the last phase of living in the castle.
