The Social Role of the Catholic Church in Overcoming Humanitarian Crises

Summary/Abstract: Modern Catholic political analysts offer three types of strategies for building a peaceful world with sustainable development which include: 1) Directing the peacekeeping efforts of the Church to horizontal cooperation with other security-related areas such as international development, environment, humanitarian aid and human rights. 2) The role of Catholicism as a mediator in addressing international conflicts beyond the dominant militarism as a crucial element of a ‘peace propedeutics’. 3) The need for new ideas and approaches to intercultural dialogue in order to overcome poverty and support geopolitical progress through non-violence.
