Summary/Abstract: This article is part of a thorough research of the institution of marriage and the change that occurs in the roles and relationships between spouses in the transition period (1989- 2000). As a result of the ensuing political, social and economic changes tended to return to patriarchal attitudes and values of marriage and family. The Bulgarian wife degenerate a complex habit. She must fulfill traditional roles – in performing household chores and raising children, but on the other hand have to work to support the family budget. Acknowledged her right to public life, and career development. The article’s aim is to trace how does marital relationships are formed and what role did women in them.
