Summary/Abstract: The vocabulary of English is, undoubtedly, heterogeneous and diversified. The Romans, the Danish and Norwegian invaders, the Norman French conquerors, the prestige of the ancient Latin and classical Greek, contacts in multilingual situations, or the great colonizing nations have contributed a lot to the English vocabulary. In this article we attempt to delineate briefly two foreign elements that have influenced the building of the English lexicon.
