Summary/Abstract: School, as an educational and upbringing institution, in fulfilling its double task has to pay equal attention to all pupils. However, since inborn and acquired abilities of pupils are different, teachers in principle devote more time to those achieving poorer results. ln this context the remark, heard here and there, that we take too little care of more gifted pupils seem s to be justified. By the analysis of a number of polLs taken among the pupils of seventh and eighth grades it was found out that gifted children showing a certain p reference for chemistry can assert themselves by means of extracurricular activity in chemistry. The results of the polls in which the respondents- gifted pupils to a large extent displayed an interest in the making of experiments are in a stark conflict with our teaching practice. The programmes for extracurricular activities in chemistry should contain the best of what a top-quality educational programme contains. But teachers lack such chemist1y program m es, so they are forced, using their own resources, to en rich, both in terms of quality and quantity, the old programmes with problem tasks that have to satisfy the interest of p upi/s and allow them a creative application of their knowledge.
