Summary/Abstract: Using a systems approach, the author of the paper presents various interpretations of the term „information society” (IS). In his paper, several aspects of the subject are dealt with from philosophical, structural, political and contextual perspectives. Besides, system priorities of IS on the part of government, economy and socialization are also introduced. Furthermore, the author presents, through examples of innovation, some actual troubles of the European and the Hungarian IS-models. He also refers to the failure of development ideology concerning these models.
