Summary/Abstract: Based on literary and empirical studies, this article outlines a recent study about elderly students of ICT. The findings show that elderly people are highly motivated to acquire ICT skills and clearly able to do so if they receive proper instruction. The author outlines the analytical concept of life-modes in relation to retirement and ICT. She proposes this framework as an approach to better understand how elders can use ICT to retain a meaningful life in retirement. Furthermore, she argues for an enhanced focus on ICT as a bridge over physical and social gaps.
