Summary/Abstract: The discourse of the church in the macrocontext of the opposition town-village in Bulgarian belles lettres from the 2nd half of the 19th c. and the beginning of the 20th c. / The town and the village are topoi, which various authors define in different ways. The main aspect while examining them is their opposition. Within the macrocontext of this confrontation the image of the church receives attention as a special zone of convergence – a place, where both topoi match. This overlaying is studied as a “negative discourse”, dealing with the religious institution in the text of urban an “patriarchal” literature.
