Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present paper is to give an insight into the changes within the systems of teaching / learning Latvian (as the native language) at the time when draft versions of the regulations determining the content of teaching / learning are being drawn up and tested: "Native Language: Draft Standard of Basic Education" [5] and "Latvian Language: a Model of a Teaching / learning Programme".
