Summary/Abstract: The artistic forms of representing communication are used as a model of the social communication interwoven into the multivariate space of action. The use of this model has enabled us 1) to prove the assumption that social and communicative roles of a woman do not coincide 2) to reveal a special communicative role typical of the female characters in A. Chekhov’s calendar short stories (2 of them were analyzed in this paper). Possessing the 'cultural code' as well as retaining the 'common memory' enables a woman to accumulate meanings, and through them regenerate and preserve the social con-nection.
