Summary/Abstract: Polish presidency in the European Union and the functioning of the economic and monetary union The Polish presidency’s actions on key issues of the economic and monetary union, related to the reform of eurozone governance, proved to be little effective. Poland met all of the goals it had planned (even if these were planned cautiously), and that was a spectacular success, achieved against the inherent odds such as the fact that the country is not in the eurozone and as, such, is excluded from the latter’s decision-making process. Some obstacle was posed by the potentially strong competition from the Eurogroup presidency which, although informal, is well positioned with the EU’s institutional architecture. Poland’s success in pushing through the “six-pack” reflected the tapping of many favorable circumstances, and especially the strong external pressure on even far-reaching reforms of eurozone governance, which brought home to the EU member states the need for urgent action.
