Summary/Abstract: Judicial court registers are among the most important Ottoman historical sources. The heritage record books which both were one of the mentioned registers and could be kept independently provide very important data for social, economic, and historical research about the Ottoman Empire. The examination of these books may enable to obtain some information regarding the period when the heritages were recorded. Including the movables and immovables bequeathed by the deceased people to their inheritors, the heritage books may provide many data concerning the economic conditions of families, the number of spouses and children in the families, sources of income, cuisine and food cultures, feeding habits, clothing cultures, habitations, and educational levels and cultural levels of the families.
