Summary/Abstract: The Author observes that nowadays there are two approaches to human work that clash each other. The first one accounts it exclusively in an economic aspect as an element of production what ulti-mately leads it to its dehumanization by instrumentalizing man. The second one, which is based on the ground of realistic philosophy and the social doctrine of the Church, accepts the dignity of man who does work and – appreciating its economic dimension – gives priority to man over the capital. The article underlines that the unemployment issue is to be investigated not only under economic terms, but under moral ones as well. The shortage of job also indicates – according to the Author – a need of respect to the moral responsibility of state, employers, employees, and unemployed.
