Summary/Abstract: Model Minority: Acknowledgement or Subjection? The purpose of this research is to determine whether the label of model minority given to Japanese immigrants to North America represents an acknowledgement of assimilation or a pressure mechanism to keep them in check. I explore this problem in John Okada’s No-No Boy, Joy Nozomi Kogawa’s Obasan and Itsuka, and Hiromi Goto’s Chorus of Mushrooms and The Kappa Child.
