Summary/Abstract: At the turn of the 20th century Russian criticism started actively to revise and re-evaluate the period of Enlightenment, as well as everything connected with this notion. It was first and foremost connected with the political changes, which occurred in Russia at the end of the 20th century. New ideological directions determine new interpretation of literary epochs. The utmost difficulty was presented by university courses, which are traditionally academically conservative and less subjected to changes and experiments than some other educational structures. It is especially true for the so-called memorial courses — Antique Literature, Middle Ages, The Literature of the Enlightenment. The titles themselves define the content of the period and its established characteristics. Many generations of students graduated from the university with established notions of these periods.
