Historical Aspects of the German Minority in the West Territory of Romania

Summary/Abstract: Here are presented some of aspects from the history of the German minority from west side of Romania. Historical documents attest that Germans were colonized in the west side of the country right at the beginning of the XVIII century: mainly were brought Germans from the South-West of Germany, a small part from Austria (from Steiermark, Tirol), a lot from Bohmen, Schlesien. Even if they were uprooted from theirs natal places, the Germans have accustomed quite fast here and they lived in a very good relationship with majority of Romanian population, as well they lived good with the members of the other minorities: Hungarian, Serbian, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian, Gypsy. After the revolution in December 1989 many ethnic Germans emigrated in Germany. The majority of them had their request submitted at the special offices, but in the time of communism they also were forbidden to leave the country.
