Summary/Abstract: In the 21st century, the government is going to be one of the most important areas of entrepreneurship and innovation, that is why the challenges ahead of us are to make: governments work more effectively and efficiently and to make governments be respected and trusted by its citizens. FPDL, through the Regional Program “Working Together” and with the continuous support of LGI (Local Government Initiative of the Open Society Institute) focused on making Local Governments work more effectively and efficiently by building the capacity of CEE/SEE trainers and training organizations. For making local governments trusted and respected by its citizens, we identified corruption – the misuse of public office for private gains, as one of the most important obstacles. In this paper, the author is looking at the mechanisms of prevention and curing the corruption on local level, while at the same time focusing on successful examples of corruption management, such as the case of La Paz.
