Summary/Abstract: In this reflexive methodological and epistemological review, the author discusses the research in which the researcher almost entirely ‡ practically, contextually and cognitively ‡ participates in the field. It is a situation that mobilises the circumstances of the researcher's life into a scholarly-research enquiry. The author's field experience in studying an urban community is reconsidered within the concept of auto-anthropology. The concept is expounded through three key research auto-references: in relation to the discipline (the subject of research and the methodology); in relation to one's own (culture and society); and, in relation to the personal (autobiographical).
