Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to present Alain Finkielkraut’s work as rooted in philosophical thinking of Emmanuel L´evinas and Hannah Arendt. For this purpose authors emphasize the relationship between Finkielkraut’s analysis of the crisis of contemporary culture and his interpretation of L´evinas’s philosophical thought, as well as with Arendt’s. Authors focus on main concepts developed by Arendt and L´evinas, which, as they argue, became essential for Finkielkraut’s critical approach: otherness, responsibility, justice, understanding of politics, and public sphere. Authors argue also that Finkielkraut’s imaginative readings of L´evinas and Arendt are not only an important contribution to understanding of both thinkers but also testify to the originality of his work.
