Summary/Abstract: Knowledge economy, new economy or information economy, seen not only as a scientific category but also as a specific social event as well, has recently become the part of the scientific and professional communication and social reality. Future of the mankind and solving of the acute economic, social and ecological problems are definitely connected with the development of the so-called knowledge economy. Just like other social processes, development of the knowledge economy is above all conscious and targeted behavior of people, social groups, and societies. That is why this study will answer the question, whether or not the government of the Slovak Republic realizes the need for the development of the knowledge economy, and what place this need has among its other priorities.
