Summary/Abstract: In a school where the student is the main pawn, new teaching methods must be implemented, in order to keep up with student’s psychology, as a group and as individuality. The computer is ultra familiar and ultra common and without computer skills the chance to enter on the labor market is insignificant. So, it is obviously that innovative teaching methods must be structured on PC. In such a context, this paper proposes the Finite Element Method as a teaching instrument. This method is a numerical method for solving partial differential equations, in present time being the most used and developed simulation, analysis and optimization environment for technical systems. The presentation is based on an electrical engineering problem, and is done with the aid of an open source software, Finite Element Method Magnetics, FEMM.
