Summary/Abstract: There are multiple challenges in the forming and shaping of catholic universities in the world today, but the overtest challenge lies in the task of defining a catholic identity for the university. This is a very complex task approached by many people in different ways, and it poses multiple challenges in and of itself. The task of forming an identity is necessarily ongoing, and paradoxically, must never pose a static solution. I would like to outline some of the challenges which the Holy See thinks must be confronted by universities if they are to carry out the specific mission of evangelization described for them in the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration Gravissimum educationis (nr. 10).
