Summary/Abstract: Representative democracy is the system of governance that is based on the interaction between the governing elite and citizens of the community. The elite is elected in free elections and is entitled to make key decisions within the system. citizens are free to deliver inputs to the decision-makers and make critiques on their work. This paper questions the key elements and values of representative democracy through john plamenatz’s critical study on democracy. We revise plamenatz’s comments on the main ideas of the utilitarians, anarchomarxists and representatives of the academic attack on democracy - michels, pareto and mosca.
