Summary/Abstract: The author considers political and social philosophy of john Stuart mill with the aim to point at the measure and character of mill's moving away from classical liberalism and his revision of classical liberal thought. The main thesis which here author advocates is that john Stuart mil - folowing his utilitarian masters (»philosophical radicals«) - in his binding of liberalism with democracy has founded the new type of liberal teaching, so called social liberalism, and doing so theoretically opened up the way for later doctrine od welfare state. Particularlly are exposed mill's deprture from the concept of negative freedom, principles of free market and the rule of law in the direction of more positive freedom, social justice, state interventionism, discretional power and socialism.
